“Women in War.” A USNCG graduate who served as a Navy officer during WWII had donated the uniform. Two unit members now have transcripts posted on the project’s website. Another unit member’s biography has been published and is in the Archives. Unit members attended Forest Lawn Veteran’s Circle and laid a Navy wreath to honor women veterans named on the Roll of Honor. Early May, members attended 5  NJROTC Award Ceremonies to  acknowledge the outstanding service of  5 young female cadets.


BOISE VALLEY WAVES
Unit # 47 (ID) – Several unit members rode in a National Guard humvee for the 4th of July parade in Boise. The members were also co-hosts for a luncheon held at the Boise Veterans Home on 16 August for the women vets that live there.


NORTHWEST FLORIDA WAVES
Unit # 52 (FL)
- Plans are being made for the unit to host the All Women Veterans Luncheon in November. This is the seventh year the unit has hosted this event. Unit member and WN President, Barb Turner, was the speaker at the Women’s Equality Day luncheon held at NAS Whiting Field in August. She gave a very informative speech on the history of the WAVES. Several unit members attended the luncheon including CDR Stephanie Oram, who is also the Executive Officer of NAS Whiting Field.

 
FIVE SEASONS
Unit # 53 (IA)
– The Unit collected food and toiletry items for donation to the Linn County Veteran Affairs, who help needy veterans.

 
TAMPA BAY WAVES
Unit # 55 (FL)
– The unit is just getting back into the swing of things after taking a hiatus for the summer. Several members have been ill or had surgery and  they are all doing fine. Big plans for this  year are to recruit some new members, bring in more current members to the

meetings, and to add some spice to the meetings. Several speakers are lined up to teach about identity theft, fire safety in the home and around the holidays.

JERSEY COLONIAL WAVES
Unit # 59 (NJ)
– During August the Unit President and Chaplain read the Navy Memorial Service for Barbara W. Reilly and, later, for Clare Favate Wirth. At both services, members of the family present expressed appreciation to the officers for their part in the Memorial Service.

 
SAND DOLLAR WAVES
Unit #60 (FL)
- On Aug. 30th the Pinellas County Veterans Liaison Council sponsored a benefit Golf Classic in association with Bay Pines Volunteer Executive Committee in celebration of 70 years of outstanding service by 1,700 dedicated volunteers to America’s veterans. The annual POW/MIA Ceremony was held Sept. 19th at Bay Pines National  Cemetery. Guest speaker was American ex-POW, FL State Commander, Ed Dement. Mr. Smith Jenkins, Jr. is the  new Director at the Bay Pines VAMC. Mr. Jenkins has over 33 years of experience  in government service. He joined the Dept. of Veterans Affairs in 1967, after completing military service  as a Hospital Corpsman in the US Navy.
 

WAVES AGO
Unit # 61 (TX)
– The unit held a potluck  lunch to celebrate the WAVES 61st birthday. A video was shown on the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Gulfport, MS  with distribution of brochures. August was a “Timeout”.


MICHIANA TIDAL WAVES
Unit # 63 (IN)
– The unit participated in Memorial Day activities. Oakwood Inn, Syracuse, IN was the meeting place for lunch and a pontoon boat ride on beautiful Lake Wawasse. The unit’s 14th anniversary celebration will take place  in September.


WAVES FORE AND AFT
Unit # 72 (OH)
- Only three of our members were able to attend the Region VII conference this year. We hope to go to  the dedication of a Women Veteran’s

Memorial that Unit # 21 is placing in a veteran cemetery at Rittman, Ohio to honor all women who serve.

 
SPACE COAST
Unit # 75 (FL)
– This 53 member unit has been busy this year (2002 – 2003).  The unit has contributed, financially, to WIMSA, Angel Flight, and the Guide Dog program. They have also contributed to the new Melbourne Military Memorial Park, and attended the dedication on Memorial Day. Linsey Gasiewicz, Outstanding Female Cadet (NJROTC) was presented a plaque by the unit. The unit  also worked at and contributed to a Stand Down for needy Brevard County  veterans, by gathering clothing, toiletries,  and food. Cash, clothing, and toiletries were donated to Serene Harbor, a home for battered women and children. The unit continues to collect coupons, labels, and aluminum can tabs.


CENTRAL COAST WINDS AND
WAVES
Unit # 90 (CA)
– The annual picnic held at Waller Park in July was fun! The unit had about 20 attending and the potlucks were delicious, especially that cold watermelon! It is so nice to relax outdoors and just visit. On July 30th the unit celebrated the WAVES 61st birthday with the San Luis Obispo unit at the Veterans Memorial Building in Paso Robles. They reminisced when they joined the U.S.Navy and had a lovely birthday cake
and punch. Installation of the officers will take place in September.


WAVES OF THE WASATCH
Unit # 93 (UT)
– The unit had a birthday bash at the DAV Building, sharing memorabilia, rare moments and lots of  laughs, plus good food. The ongoing  food drive for the homeless has been very successful.

Unit #94 (TN)
- What a privilege and experience it was to host a MID-TERM meeting of our National Officers! The unit, located in Nashville, TN hosted the members of the WAVES National Board of Directors in Nashville, TN on 8-10 August 2003. The meeting was held at
