VETERANS HISTORY PROJECT UPDATE |
|
|
In 1998, the Inland Northwest WAVES Unit 140 members approved the idea for a booklet of the members’ history, complete with a picture of each service member. Delores Walk was selected as the project manager. As the stories came in and she read and typed them into the proper format, Delores found it amazing how much detail the members were able to remember about time and places in their lives that happened more than fifty years ago. The manuscript was assembled and spiral bound in 2000, and has finally made its way to the Veterans History Project and the Library of Congress (LoC) where it will be shared with the public who visit there. Sarah Rouse, senior program officer for the VHP, wrote Delores: “We recently received here in the Veterans History Project, from the Library of Congress Public Affairs Office, a copy of ‘We Also Served, Everyone has a Story… In Our Own Words,’ containing stories of the women in the WAVES National Unit No. 140, Spokane,WA. |
On behalf of the Veterans History Project, I’d like to say how grateful
we are for your donation of this wonderful work about a very special
group of women, to our Veterans History Project Collection.
You will receive a formal acknowledgment and thanks later, but I wanted to let you know (because of the lag time in our getting the materials) that it now is safe in our project office. Thanks again for sharing this work with us so we can share it with
the public who visit us here at LC. Sincerely, Delores encourages other units of WAVES National to challenge their members to tell their stories. Job well done, Delores, Bravo Zulu to you and the members of Unit 140! |

THE TOWERS CRUMBLED -
WE DID NOT |
|
|
September 11th was lovely – blue sky filled with sun People dashing off
to work – their duties had just begun. There was a loud roar – then a
violent shake Most people surmised - it must be an earthquake.
This was NO act of Nature – they were soon to see But EVIL that changed the world – and our Destiny. Jet planes filled with ‘innocent lives’ – were no more The smoke, flames and debris – soon blocking the door. No place to flee – just no safe haven on Earth The Devil had inflicted with furry and mirth. “I'll get the last laugh!” the Wicked Devil said “I will ENJOY seeing ALL of Humanity dead!” But there in that HELL – shown a shimmering, white light. Though that beautiful day – was as BLACK as the night. An ANGEL appeared in phosphorescent white A smile on her face – then she hugged them all tight! “Follow me she said, for I will show you the way In Heaven you will see a NEW dawn of this day. Billions of PRAYERS have been received-loud and clear You are safe in the LORD – you have nothing to FEAR!” |
From the portals of HEAVEN – we then saw them fall Of our beautiful
towers – NOTHING was left at all. We watched them search for us by night
and day We were NOT there – we had been swept away!
Heroes at the Pentagon and on the last Flight Fighting EVIL with GOOD with ALL of their MIGHT! We are PROUD of your sacrifice – please dry your tears We see candles burn world wide – there is nothing to fear! GOD IS UPSET but HIS power is MUCH stronger Freedom, Justice and Peace will live on for much longer. To the end of the Earth – GOD has promised to STAY America, you are safe – just remember to PRAY!
*Note about the author: Judy Perry wrote this poem on 26 September 2001 when she woke up in the middle of the night days after 9/11. Her poem will be published in “Skipping Stones” by CDR Pete Freas, USN (Ret), and a navy Seawolf helicopter pilot in Vietnam. Congratulations Judy! |
