CANDIDATES FOR WAVES NATIONAL OFFICES

    PRESIDENT   

BARBARA L. (COUCH) TURNER – Hail from Topeka, Kansas. Enlisted U. S. Navy – November 1974. Selected for “AZ” (Aviation Maintenance Administrationman) Chief 1987 and commissioned an Ensign October 1990. Retired – November 1996. Member (1994) and Past President, Northwest Florida WAVES Unit 52 (1995 – 1998); WAVES National Public Relations Chairman (1997 – 2000); WAVES National State Director/Regional Representative, Region XII (Florida) (2000 – 2002); WAVES National President (2002 – 2004); charter member of WIMSA; member American Legion Post 240, Pensacola and Pensacola Council

of the Navy League; Fund Raising Chairman, Santa Rosa County Veterans Memorial Plaza Committee; member Elizabeth Chapel United Methodist Church, and an amateur Clown. Volunteer – American Cancer society “Relay for Life”, Ronald McDonald House, Make-A-Wish Foundation and Pensacola Ice Pilots. Employed as the Program Coordinator, Armed Services Department, Pensacola Area Chamber of Commerce. Married to ABHC Ben Turner, USN (Ret). Proud parent of three sons, and one grandson. Resides in Milton, FL.

    FIRST VICE-PRESIDENT   

SHARON WOODS – I would like to be considered for the position of WAVES National 1st Vice President and continue the duties of this office for the next full term. Enlisted U.S. Navy – April 1968 and attended boot camp at Bainbridge. Stationed at NAS North Island, San Diego, CA as a “AZ” (Aviation Maintenance Administrationman) Third Class Petty Officer. Charter member with Cactus WAVES Unit 114 serving as Treasurer for six years; President and Secretary for one year and WAVES National Ship’s Store Officer for four years (1998 – 2002); WAVES National Historian (2002 – 2003). On April 8, 2003 I was elected by the NEC to take over the position of WAVES National 1st Vice President (2003 – 2004). Currently serving as the Arizona State Director as well. I have two grown sons, Michael and Norman; one step-grandson and one grandson. When it comes time to vote, please mark your ballot YES for Sharon Woods as your next WAVES National First Vice President. See you in Philly!

    SECOND VICE-PRESIDENT   

DASSA CARVEY – Enlisted in U.S. Navy in 1963 and served as a Journalist (JO2) Second Class Petty Officer on the Public Affairs staff of the Chief of Naval Air Basic Training Command, Pensacola, FL. Assigned to Public Information Office, NAS Pensacola, FL working on base newspaper, GOSPORT. OMBUDSMAN for two commands as military wife. Employed with the Department of the Navy for more than 30 years and am currently the Senior Budget Analyst for the Comptroller, U. S. Atlantic Fleet. Joined WAVES National in 2000 and have attended both 2000 and 2002 WN con-

-vention serving as official photographer. Currently serve as the WAVES National Public Relations Chairman (June 2002 – 2004). Chartered Tidewater Tidal WAVES Unit 152 in 2001, serving as Unit President (2001 – 2004). WAVES National Stained Glass Window Co-chairman successfully overseeing complete Stained Glass Project for Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth, VA. – dedicated July 2003. Areas of interest for WN include ensuring continued recruitment of new members and units, as well as retaining those members and units currently on board.
