ASSISTANT TREASURER Gloria Galati continued…

Winners to be announced at our national convention in August. Thank you to everyone for their help and assistance through this 2004 dues year. Until next time, as always, Anchor Aweigh!

BYLAWS CHAIRMAN Marlene Mathis

The proposed amendments to WN Bylaws 2002 are contained in this April issue in a convenient pull out section. Please familiarize yourself with them and bring your copy of the amendments with you to the convention in Philadelphia. Many of the thirty amendments are editorial and do not change procedure or policy of WN. The bylaws part of the meeting at convention should move along very quickly. If you should have a question, my telephone and email address are on page 2. Hope all of you have a wonderful spring season. I look forward to seeing many of you in Philadelphia.

VETERANS AFFAIRS: DEPUTY VAVS REP.
Susan DeRosa

Hello ladies, winter hopefully is mostly over and boy are we ready for spring!

National Salute to Hospitalized Veterans Week (February 8-14) was a huge success. I saw more Valentines this year. I hope everyone did a little something for the veteran patients in their area. We had a whole week of activities for them at our VAMC.

With spring comes National Volunteer Week, April 18-24. For those of you who volunteer at VA facilities in your area please enjoy your week of special treats that were planned just for you. This would be a good time to try to recruit some one else to become a regularly scheduled volunteer. I’m sure there are some who only volunteer occasionally in your unit; maybe they need just a little push to become a regularly scheduled volunteer. It never hurts to ask, so try to turn some of those occasional ladies into regulars.

If your VAMC has an awards banquet at this time, don’t forget to support our ladies who have given their time representing WAVES National doing volunteer work. Happy Volunteer Week ladies!

VOLUNTEER SERVICES Dewann Beatson

How many of our Membersat- large volunteer? Bake sales, choir? So 52 hours a week not worth reporting for so few hours? Let’s consider how many might only volunteer an hour or two a week. Add all those to someone’s hours and we have hundreds or perhaps thousands. If you are a member-at-large don’t hesitate to send me your hours by 15 June every year. Any type of volunteering (except for babysitting grandchildren) is acceptable. Any questions? Write me and I will try and answer.

REMINDER: All bids for location of the 2006 WN convention must be in my hands no later than July 15th.

WHITE CAPS EDITOR
Ida Duffy

I’m curious…does anyone read these articles, or pay attention to addresses, etc? Contributors to the White Caps! Please pay close attention to the addresses listed in this current addition. We try to make sure, with each issue, that any and all changes have been incorporated.

SOME NOTES: Please send only nonmember women of the sea service veterans’ death notices to Jan Roy. Other service veterans obits should be sent to WIMSA. And please note Jan’s e-mail and current mailing address on Page 23.

I appreciate greatly those of you who are able to send your submissions by e-mail. It makes our job a whole lot easier, but, if you don’t have access, keep those cards and letters coming! Except for this article, none of the input is mine! It comes from all of you! Thanks!

The weather is getting gorgeous here in sunny Florida, but by the time the next issue is to be put together, I’ll be back in Arkansas, so please send your contributions to my current address listed on Page 2.

The excitement is building for the convention! Here’s hoping that we see many of you there! Again, remember that the next issue’s deadline is the 1st of May!

IF YOU CHANGE YOUR E-MAIL ADDRESS, PLEASE LET BARB TURNER, DASSA CARVEY AND PAT HOLCOMBE KNOW ASAP!

    Looking For ........

VA Beach has an old Coast Guard Station that has been converted to a museum, "The Old Coast Guard Station Museum." The Program Director is putting together a Women of the Coast Guard display, March 30-May 24, and needs the loan of Coast Guard items such as photos, uniforms, and training materials. If you can assist, please contact: Lemoine Jones, Old Coast Guard Station, VA Beach, VA, (757)422-1587. UNIFORMS – Some of us can’t wear our old uniforms anymore. We think that there are some out there that are going “unworn” for various reasons. We would like to have them so that we can be in uniform for events, such as parades, presentations and memorial services. Will pay for postage. Call Olive Lazio (631) 661-5128 or Olivia/Laz@aol.com. I hope this request doesn't seem odd, but I have tried all Navy stores to no avail.
