By the time you ladies read this hopefully winter is over and you’re starting to enjoy spring. Our membership contest is full speed ahead and we have 102 new members as of January 31st. One problem I did notice when I was going through the new members list, there were 37 new members who did not list a referral, so I can’t count them as part of the contest. For those of you recruiting, remember to put your name on the applications so you can receive credit for the contest. You have until the end of June to recruit before the contest ends, so keep up the good work ladies and full speed ahead. Now is the time to remind all of you about upcoming reports that will be due. That goes for Unit Presidents, State Directors, and Regional Representatives. Keep that in mind and get your reports in on time! If anyone has any questions regarding these reports please contact your National Officers and we’ll be happy to help. One last item, Unit Presidents, remember to turn in your election transmittals as soon as possible, this being a convention year, there should be changes with most of you. Thanks for letting me rattle on, until next time, this is Sharon signing off.
Ruby Homick I think that I have thawed out after my trip to Wisconsin to help charter Unit # 153 Fox Cities. President Nellie DeBaker did a great job arranging the ceremonies. It was great fun meeting many of the ladies that I had only known through e-mail. Del Clover and her husband Pete entertained Barb and I and drove us around the city of Green Bay. Thanks, Del. As you can see there is hope for the units. All you have to do is advertise. It is like I told the girls, automobiles sell thru ads, soaps sell thru ads, and you will find most things that are advertised are noticed. Let’s get some |
word out to the ladies that don’t know we exist. Many times, I have
heard that new members did not know about our organization until they
read something in the paper or saw a notice of a meeting. Even Pet rocks
sold like crazy, so let’s sell ourselves.
Newspapers are willing to put a notice in for nothing if you are willing to take the time to write it and send it in to any papers you have in your area, even throwaways. Be sure to take care of yourselves and say a prayer for our service personnel overseas.
Newsletters continue to arrive almost daily, and I find them most interesting. The variety of events and projects show there is still life after 50! Volunteer work is certainly obvious in your articles. Give yourselves a pat on the back! Picking winners is going to be difficult, each newsletter is different. Remember, they must be in my hands by 15 May 2004 in order that they may be evaluated and winners chosen. Thank you all for your contributions.
Pat Childers Happy Spring; as I sit here writing this, eastern North Carolina has just experienced one of the worst snow storms in recent memory, (and it came from the south). I awoke to snow falling this morning, so since it is continuing to fall we were released from work early and they are calling for this to end sometime tomorrow with sleet and freezing rain. But, not to worry the weekend should be warmer with temperatures in the 60’s, so this snow won’t last long. Hopefully all Unit Treasurer’s have forwarded the unit dues to our Assistant Treasurer, Gloria Galati. With so much happening this year; you won’t want to miss a single issue of White Caps, or your Call to Convention, so if you are tardy, please get them in immediately! A few months ago I wrote about Life Membership for WAVES National, and we |
have had several women make the commitment
and become Life Members. I have
received some questions mostly from members
who want to know where the form is to
become a Life Member. There is no form, if
you are currently a member of WAVES
National we have already processed your
membership, so if you want to become a
Life Member all you need to do is send a
note along with your Life Membership dues
(see December 2003 Treasurer article)
telling Gloria Galati, Assistant Treasurer your membership number and
that you wish to become a Life Member. If you have any questions, please
don’t hesitate to contact me (see page 2 for address/or phone number).
One of the two $1,000 Scholarships that WAVES National is sponsoring this year is honoring Anne Marie Bianchi Gagnon. Her family contacted WAVES National with the idea of honoring their Mother/Grandmother with this scholarship. Carl Gagnon and Anthony Bianchi have made generous donations recently towards this scholarship. Congratulations and Welcome Aboard to Fox Cities Unit 153, hope to see you in Philadelphia!
Hello WN Members: Hope this issue finds everyone in good health and happy! This will be the last White Caps issue you will receive if you haven’t paid your 2004 national dues. All unit members who haven’t paid their national dues should do so by seeing their unit treasurers. If you are a member-atlarge then complete the member-at-large form found in the White Caps along with a check for $10.00 and mail it to me at the address found on page 2 of the White Caps. I will be sending out unit membership rosters to all unit treasurers and regional representatives in April. Regional Representatives should forward state membership rosters to their state directors. Also please complete the “Referred By:_______” on all new membership applications which come to National. This is for our national membership contest. |
