CANDIDATES FOR WAVES NATIONAL OFFICES

    SECOND VICE-PRESIDENT  

BERNADETTE FARINA - Born in Brooklyn, N.Y. and joined the WAVES October 1950, during the Korean War. While in boot training at Great Lakes, was assigned as Company Recruit 3rd Class Petty Officer in Company 74 Platoon 4. After attending Naval School of Disbursing, San Diego, CA was assigned to Cabiness Field, Corpus Christi, Texas and later married Gunnery Sgt. George Wilson, USMC and was discharged in 1952. After first working as a financial consultant for ITT Services, worked 20 years as Executive Director of the Tri-county area, SC and Rhode Island State Director of the March of Dimes Foundation before retiring in 1995. In seeking the office of WAVES National 2nd Vice President, I offer a background rich in administration of nonprofit organizations. In addition to

leadership experience in the WAVES, experience with the March of Dimes included managing a $300,000 budget, recruiting a volunteer board and managing staff. Additionally responsible for the development of fund-raising and grant programs, organizing both public and professional educational programs and developing a volunteer corps of over 300 individuals. Member of WAVES National since 1992, first with the RI Ocean State Unit #118, serving as Parliamentarian; and as member of FL Space Coast Unit #75 since 1995, serving first as Treasurer, two terms as President and currently as Vice-President. Remain an Associate member of Unit #118. I am also a charter member of WIMSA, attending both the 1997 dedication and the 2002 five-year anniversary.

    SECOND VICE-PRESIDENT   

RUBY RAINES HOMICK – Born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and raised in Michigan. Graduated from High School and joined the U. S. Navy. Length of service 4 years. A widow after having been married for 38 years with two sons. Employed as head of accounts receivable at a medium automobile parts manufacturing company in Detroit, MI for several years. Member Navy Alumni Club, American Legion, Navy League and Apollo Beach Civic Association. Joined WAVES National in 1990. Served as President of Tampa Bay WAVES Unit 55 - four years; Florida State Director and Region XII Representative - four years. Member of WAVES National Executive Board – four years; WAVES National Volunteer Services Chairman and Alternate State Director and Region XII Representative until 2002 convention. Currently serving as WAVES National 2nd Vice President. Chartered Fox Cities WAVES Unit 153 (January 2004) and encouraged members to recruit new members nation wide.

    RECORDING SECRETARY   

FRONA (GOPP) LISTON – Left hometown of North Canton, OH for Hunter College July 25, 1945. Following “boot” and accelerated Hospital Corps School at Hunter, was assigned to Long Beach (CA) Naval Hospital. Limited duty in dependents’ ward, then medical records transcriptionist before being mustered out at San Diego in July 1946. Joined WAVES National November 18, 1985 and became member of Ohio’s Unit 21. Have served as Unit Treasurer, Secretary and President and on various committees. Currently unit Nominating Committee Chairman;

serve on publicity committee and handle luncheon reservations and contribute to unit newsletter. Served on WAVES National Unit #133’s Convention 2000 Committee and assembled program books. Coordinated 2001 Region VII Conference. Currently serving as WAVES National Time and Place Chairman. For several years prior to and following 1990 retirement as clerical supervisor, tutored in Adult Literacy Program and founded local council in then hometown. Past ESL (English as a second language) tutor. Currently volunteering at local Heritage Society.
