WAVES NATIONAL 2008 COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP

Two $1,500 scholarships are available for lineal descendants or relatives (male and female) of women who served, or are presently serving in the Navy, Coast Guard, Marine Corps or their reserve components. The names of the scholarships and the topics for 2008 are: The Anne Marie Bianchi-Gagnon Scholarship, “Sea Service Women Underway” and Founders of WAVES National Scholarship which involves interviewing your sea service woman relative, using “Grandma was a Sailor” as the guideline for interview questions.

(interview question guidelines)

In the past, several entrants have been disqualified because they did not follow the rules. PLEASE READ THE RULES.

  1. Eligibility is open to a relative or lineal descendant, male or female, of women who have served or are serving in the Navy, Coast Guard or Marine Corps or their reserve components. A lineal descendant is a relative, by birth or legal adoption, of the sea service woman – step-children/grandchildren are allowed to submit an application. The entrant must send proof of the sea service woman’s honorable discharge or her present status in the military.
  2. Essays must be written on the assigned topics.
  3. Competition is open to high school seniors or college students. They may enter one or both scholarship competitions.
  4. The essay must consist of 1,000 to 1,500 words and must show evidence of research.
  5. Entrants must submit four copies of each essay.
  6. Entries must be postmarked by March 15, 2008, with no exception. Applications and accompanying documents, as described, should be mailed to:
