"WOMEN OF THE SEA SERVICES"

Sept/Oct 2001   Page 2

From the Editor…..
The Navy Sea Cadet ship Gray Fox was in Bay City August 18-25 under the sponsorship of the Saginaw Valley Naval Ship Museum committee. In addition to daily public tours, 40 youngsters from the Boys and Girls Club were given a 2-1/2 hour cruise to Saginaw Bay on Thursday. I was one of the fortunate adults aboard that day, and loved every minute, especially the time I spent on the bridge during the rain. I’ll have another chance to use my sea legs September 10th when our Navy League meets for lunch at the Coast Guard Station. Weather permitting, we will go for a ride on their large new boat

P.S. We understand that Jim Saint Amour is active with the Navy Sea Cadets. A good group of kids!

Save your extra 2002 calendars and bring them to Unit 32’s December meeting! We will see that they are distributed to veterans in the VA hospitals. Large print and colorful pictures are favorites of the patients. Campbell labels are still being collected for the Institute of Logopedics. Keep saving! Missing a book? Call me and I’ll try to track it down from our master list. 989-463-3765.

Hire a Veteran

The State of Michigan is sponsoring a TV and radio campaign to hire veterans. Running from July 4 to Veterans’ Day, November 11, the ads will emphasize their skills and qualifications. The motto is, “Let’s hire those who helped us.”
