Bettie’s By-line
(Continued from page 1)
Looks like a busy Fall and Winter. Let’s all get together
and help Irene and Mary Lou. They have taken on big jobs and
will welcome any help you can give. All for now…..

has said it all. Cleveland was a great experience. I was
especially impressed with the Lake Erie and Cuyahoga River
waterfronts with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the USS Cod,
the stadiums, museums, memorials, statues and restaurants. The
hotel service was exceptional. There were several former WRENS
now living in Canada who came to the convention. As we waited
for an elevator one day, a WREN described the WWII bombing of
London. After taking shelter in the underground during an
attack, she returned home to find it completely destroyed, her
mother and sister killed, and another sister buried in debris
for two days. On a happier note, the WRENS presented a little
skit to the tune of “H.M.S. Pinafore.” Thank all of you
for your cards and prayers during my recent illness. I am on
the road to recovery and looking forward to shoveling snow
this winter. My dog, Snoopy, did not fare so well, however. We
lost him to lymphoma a month ago. He’s been my companion for
11 years.
