for women veterans at the VA Hospital and collecting Campbell
labels for “Heartspring Students.”
Lake Erie WAVES Unit 128
donated the leftover magnetic flags from the WN Convention 2000
to the relief effort. Channel 13 in Toledo gave them out to
other contributors. A note from editor, Marian Elfring, mentions
that Sara Feldbauer, formerly of Unit 32, belongs to #128.

miss her, Marian)
The Crow’s Nest Unit 21 is
seeking assistance from other Ohio units to collaborate in
purchasing a monument for the Ohio Western Reserve National
Cemetery. They have raised non-member subscriptions to their
newsletter to $8 per year.
Semwaves Unit 101’s
President Edythe Safford was preparing to leave Vancouver on
September 11 for a flight home after spending 11 days on a
Canadian tour. They were already checked out of their hotel when
someone turned on the TV. All flights were cancelled and they
were not able to fly home until September 18th. Edythe says they
were treated royally during their extended stay. Unit 101
contributed $100 to Unit 117, Long Island, NY, who gave it to
Arlene Howard, an ex-Navy gal and mother of Port Authority
policeman, George Howard, who was lost in the terrorist attack.
WHITE CAPS reminds us of
the upcoming WN National Convention in Portland, Oregon, August
27-31, 2002. They promise special room rates, tours, trolley
rides, unique shops and eateries, as well as a WWII sub, the USS
Blueback, to visit.
