"WOMEN OF THE SEA SERVICES"

From the Editor…..

The last issue of SHORELINES was mailed the morning of September 11. Since then I have been on an emotional roller coaster. Some days are so filled with despair that I don’t want to get out of bed; others find me once again trusting in God, the Government and the American people. So it goes.

I will miss Marion Grattan. She was a very special lady to work with, and I welcomed her journalistic expertise.

Mike Kegley spoke at the October meeting about the importance of registering discharge papers with the Office of the County Clerk in your area. That way your relatives or funeral director can get a copy when needed. (I thought everyone knew this; I did it immediately upon discharge.) Proof of discharge is needed for VA benefits.

Does Anthrax scare you? It has been suggested that we reduce exposure to mail-born anthrax and circumvent the postal system by using the Internet and e-mail. I’m especially worried about sending Christmas cards this year.

On a happy note: Jan Roy visited on her way home from an American Legion membership meeting in Oscoda. We spent a lot of time (and some $$$) in the antique shops on Water Street in Bay City. - Dolores

Special Projects Committee
Shirley Croucher, Chairman

Save your extra 2002 calendars and bring them to Unit 32’s December meeting! We will see that they are distributed to veterans in the VA hospitals. Large print and colorful pictures are favorites of the patients.

Campbell labels are still being collected for the Institute of Logopedics. Keep saving!

Ten of the 40 lap robes crocheted by Doris Graham will be distributed to the VA Hospital in Battle Creek.

Shirley and committee are trying to fill 15 more ditty bags. (She will probably accept contributions at the December meeting.)
