Bettie’s By-line

Where has this year gone? Suddenly it’s Fall, the leaves are all down and it’s getting colder. But….I went where it was warmer.
My American Business Women’s National Convention was held in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and since I’ve never been there, I went. I left on October 31 (Halloween) and stayed until November 4th. This means I was not at the November 3rd board meeting. I’m sure Avis Lowe handled it fine. On November 4th I left for Las Vegas and spent a week at my time-share (formerly Debbie Reynolds Hotel). Two of my ABWA friends joined me and we took in the sights. Yes, I gambled a little (?).

At our October meeting, our speaker, Stu Bailey, educated us on Michigan’s place in the history of space. I hope to visit the Space and Science Center that he directs the next time I’m in Jackson. We have been getting some very informative speakers, and I’m glad we decided to have them at our meetings.

We were saddened to learn of the death of our past president, Marion Grattan. She was a very dedicated worker for veterans’ causes. Several Unit 32 members attended a memorial service at her home in Jackson.

Again, the plea was made for members to submit profiles and a picture in uniform, if possible, for a book that Dolores Maillette will put together. Please, let’s make this a unit project that we can be proud of.

Our next event will be the annual Christmas luncheon in Marshall. The city should be festive with seasonal decorations. I hope that all of you can attend and celebrate with your shipmates.

All good thoughts go to our service men and women who will not be here to spend the holidays with their families. - Bettie

Happy Thanksgiving!

Update on Captain Clark

An article in the last SHORELINES depicted a happy Naval Reservist. Just days later, her e-mail told of the destruction at the Pentagon and the loss of several friends. Anna Mae has now been reactivated for another year.
