From your editor…..Shorelines Editor

Spring is an enchantress, no doubt of that. I always tell people that Fall is my favorite season, then after a cold winter find my loyalty wavering as I delight in the sun and warmth, the abundant beauty of flowers and budding trees, the green grass, the birds, the hope and promise of this gorgeous season.

Mother’s Day was as perfect as it can get! My children and I spent the day planting flowers, hanging three planters on the front porch, mowing the lawn and lugging the picnic table and chairs out of the garage. Best of all, I didn’t have to get all dressed up and go out to a crowded restaurant!

I wish that we could skip the February meeting and substitute a mid-summer meeting. Driving conditions are so uncertain in the winter, the landscape is bleak, and many members are in the South at that time. Any thoughts on this suggestion?

We have a new Web address. Check us out at: http://womenofthewaves.com. Watch the waving flags, listen to the Navy Band play "Anchors Away," link to Waves National, WIMSA and other Unit pages, and read the latest issue of SHORELINES.

ussconstitutionSpeaking of Web sites, Ann-Marie Amthor alerted us to the Marblehead MA "Town Online" article on the visit of the USS Constitution in July 1997. Tens of thousands of people crowded into town to view the world’s most famous warship. After anchoring majestically in the harbor, she sailed under her own power for the first time in more than a century! Our own Captain Anna Mae (Steinberger) Clark and her husband, Captain Richard Clark, will both retire from the Navy in the year 2000 from the decks of this very same vessel.
