President’s corner…..

Spring is here, which means our Unit 32 luncheon meetings are drawing to a close for this fiscal year with our annual meeting scheduled for Saturday, June 26, in East Lansing. Be sure to mail your vote if you can’t attend. See the ballot in this issue.

Our meeting at the Coast Guard Station in Bay City was interesting and different. It was fun going through the "chow line." Thank you, Dolores Maillette, for arranging it, and we all wish Chef O’Hare and our guest Jennifer Archer good luck in their future Coast Guard assignments. Thank you, too, Mike Kegley, for having the model of the USS CHARLES F. ADAMS on site for us to view first hand. Hopefully, our unit can be one of the first groups to tour when the ship is ready in the summer of 2001. As a unit, we seem to be slipping into the habit of not sending in reservations for luncheon meetings by the stated deadline. This is important, as the hostess is required to get back with the facility for proper planning. Paying at the door is sometimes necessary, but it does cause confusion and imposes a hardship on the treasurer. (If you have to pay at the door, please try to have the exact amount.) And, showing up unexpectedly and expecting restaurants to redo their set-up is rude and time costly. I feel we are taking advantage of our treasurer’s good nature in this situation.

It is time to get reservations in for the Regional Conference to be held in Lexington, Kentucky, July 9-11. Each member was mailed reservation forms, but if you have misplaced yours, call me at 517-463-3765, and I will mail you copies. Remember, the deadline is May 28 for the Bluegrass Tour, June 9 for the conference, and June 15 for hotel reservations at the Holiday Inn North. I hope our unit can be well represented.

The word from Jan at the VA Clinic in Gaylord is that they have enough soap bags to last quite awhile. Thanks to those members who worked on them!

Dorothy Marsh, one of our members who volunteers at the VA hospital in Ann Arbor, reports that Florence Gaus had surgery there on Thursday, April 26. She had a double by-pass, but is doing well.

Have a healthy, happy Spring! See you all at the annual meeting in East Lansing on June 26th. - Shirleysmileflower

A SUMMER PROJECT

Unit 101 will host the All Service Women’s Luncheon this year October 16 at the Romulus Marriott Inn. They are asking for help with the blocks for the quilt they will raffle at the luncheon. Genevieve Palczynski has the blocks and directions, but still needs a Coast Guard block. Call her at 810-755-2349 if you need to keep your hands busy while you loll in the sun this summer. She will mail blocks and directions.
