Condensed Minutes of February 27, 1999 Meeting

Delhi Cafe, Holt, Michigan

Fifty-one members and guests attended the February 27th meeting at the Delhi Café in Holt, Mi. The secretary’s and treasurer’s reports were approved as presented. Committee Reports follow:

Membership: We have gained one new member, to make 119 plus 2 associates.

Campbell Labels: Letter of thanks from National Chair Alice Anderson for 1700 labels sent for Heartspring.

Special Funds: Stella Staley, Elizabeth Ehman and Doris Graham displayed ditty and soap bags made for our women veteran project. Soap bags will go to the VA clinic in Gaylord.

Volunteer Hours: New forms and explanation in this issue.

Naval Ship Museum: "Save Our Ship" billboards have been erected along major highways into Bay City. A 9-ft. model of the USS CHARLES F. ADAMS is on display at the city hall in Bay City.

State Director: Eleanor Robinson reported that the state-wide meeting is set for October 4-5 at Mackinac Island. Some members objected to dates during work week, and cost involved. Eleanor will get back with the planning committee.

Region VII Conference – July 9-10, 1999, Lexington, Kentucky: Registration fee is $70 which includes the Saturday business meeting, lunch that day, the banquet dinner and entertainment that evening. Spouses are welcome with a fee of $30 for the dinner. Holiday Inn North rates are $79 for two beds/ two persons, plus 11% tax. The Bluegrass Tour on Friday is $45, including lunch and admissions. Reservations forms will be included in the May/June issue of Shorelines if space permits.

Vickie Lisenbee reported that the date for the ALL SERVICE WOMEN’S LUNCHEON is October 16, 1999, at the Marriott Hotel in Romulus.

Winners of the 50/50 drawing were Genevieve Palczynski, Yetive Szkotnicki and Florence Gaus. Knit pot holders donated by Yetive were won by Mary Lou Untenberger.

New Business: Sara Feldbauer has been appointed chair of the bylaws committee to relieve Jan Roy of that responsibility while she is WN president. Sara, Wanda Kearns and Stella Staley will serve as an audit committee following the June meeting. President Croucher and Chaplain Irene Zeilinger conducted a memorial service for Charlotte Volland who died March 20, 1998. Taps concluded the ceremony.

The meeting was turned over to Shirley Pittenger who spoke of her 12 years as a clown, and her trip to Russia with Dr. "Patch" Adams. Betty Maloney, Secretary, Edited by S. Croucher

Linda Sue Smith Butterfield

Mt. Morris MI

Linda served from September 1965 to September 1971 as a Reservist. She attended boot camp at Bainbridge, MD, and hospital corps school at Great Lakes, IL. She attained the rank of HM3, and her primary duty station was with the USNR unit in Flint, MI.

Now on display, "FAMILY & FRIENDS," protraits by Roxanne J. Frith, through April 15, 1999. We are invited to a wine and cheese reception March 21, 1:30 – 4 p.m. for the exhibit entitled "BECOMING AMERICAN WOMEN IN MICHIGAN: The Jewish Immigrant Experience, 1880-1920," which is open to the public March 22 – September 15.
