Bettie’s
By-line
We
all survived the miserable weather the day of our February
meeting and are now anticipating Spring. Thanks to Eleanor
Robinson for stepping in and making the arrangements at the
Brookshire Country Club following the death of Betty Maloney.
The food was very good and the management tolerant while
waiting for all of us to arrive.
In December, several of you “adopted”
a woman housed in the Grand Rapids Veterans’ Home. At the
February meeting we were informed of the death of Mary
Kaashoek, a Unit 32 member who lived at the home. I’m sure
the attention given her by the person who adopted her at
Christmas brightened her holidays. We may learn of other
members who should be “adopted.” Perhaps we could make
this a unit project, reassuring members who are unable to
attend meetings that they are not forgotten.
I am sorry to report that we have lost another
member. Marie Addison from Port Huron passed away from double
pneumonia on February 26th. Her nephew, John Mainguy, found
Eleanor Robinson’s name in Shorelines and notified
her. If you would like to send a card, Mr. Mainguy’s |
address is: 1174 Allen Road, Kimble, MI
48074.
I hope to welcome you in my area on
April 14th. Avis Lowe and I will show you a nice time in our
beautiful Waltonwood of 12 Oaks. Twelve Oaks Mall is
nearby for your shopping pleasure. It’s a very nice mall,
with lots of special stores. If members wish to spend the
night, Waltonwood has two beautiful rooms and one suite
that they rent for $50 a night. For reservations call
248-735-1500. Reserve soon, as the rooms are limited.
Until April, think SPRING!-

Anchors Aweigh!
Two Unit 32 members, YNC Kathleen Hall and
YN1 Mary Kegley, recently retired as Drilling Naval
Reservists.
They
were ‘piped ashore’ in impressive retirement ceremonies at
Naval Reserve Center Saginaw in December and January
respectively.
Patricia Saint Amour remains the only
member of our unit still in drilling status with the Navy,
unless you count her husband, Jim. |
