"Still Something Special"

From the Editor…..

page2.4.jpg (1703 bytes)As I write on this perfect summer day, it’s hard to believe that we are planning our Fall meeting.

It’s a little intimidating to contemplate publishing this newsletter with a former newspaper editor as our president this year. Marion spent 32 years as a reporter and editor at the Jackson Citizen Patriot after her discharge from the Navy. We’ll have to watch our P's and Q's.

(The above was written before I learned of Marion’s surgery. My prayers are with her.)

My wonderful neighbor gave me a copy of Tom Brokaw’s "The Greatest Generation," and I heartily recommend reading it. It’s full of reminisces for those of us who survived the Depression years and WW II, and then reconstructed our lives.

Jan Roy will be with me this weekend as we ride "The African Queen" and see the old movie on Bay City’s "silver screen."

(continued from page 1)

We lost two members during this period...Charlotte Volland and Charlotte Eddy. A memorial was held for them.

A new ruling stating that a meeting hostess must clear luncheon costs with the treasurer before printing in SHORELINES was added to our standing rules.

Several things did not happen during this period. "Member Profiles" needs someone to follow through. Charlotte Davis’ fundraising ideas need to be investigated. WIND (Women in National Defense), a regional memorial in Battle Creek, is still alive. This would complement the WIMSA memorial in Washington D.C.

The past two years as president of Unit 32 were busy and interesting. Thank you for the opportunity to serve you, and I hope you will all help Marion to have a happy and rewarding term.

Sincerely, Shirley Croucher
