From the Editor…..
Happy
NewYear!
Let’s all try to keep a positive attitude and optimistic
approach to life in 2002 !
The good news in Bay City is that our Navy Ship Committee has
received a $25,000 grant from Dow. We are getting closer to
our goal of 2.5 million dollars to bring the USS Charles F.
Adams destroyer to the Saginaw River as an educational museum.
Lona King sent me two poems composed by a Grayling woman after
the September 11 devastation. We can’t print them in entirety,
but here is the last stanza of one:
We’ll leave destruction where it lies,
And from the ashes we will rise.
Our strength and faith are with us still
For GOOD survives -
And always will……
That’s what I mean by a positive approach!
Ladies, we need to tell our stories. An estimated 1500 WWII
veterans die each day. It’s important for younger generations
to get to know what we did. Barbara Turner, Florida State
Director, said when interviewed by WEAR TV3: “It takes a lot
for them to tell their stories, but they need to, especially
in light of what’s going on in the country today, to let the
country know that women were there from the very beginning and
are still there.”
I have offered to put your stories in book form, but I need to
start before I become
a statistic. Mail them to me with a photo in uniform, if
possible.
