"Still Something Special"

Jan/Feb 2000

From the Editor…..

page2.4.jpg (1703 bytes)

It was our new president’s idea to move her "message" from the front page, saving that space for "news." I am forced to resurrect old reportorial skills, as well as research articles of interest to our readers and this requires more time than the previous typing, layout, printing, labeling and mailing. I do understand that Marion’s 32 years with the Jackson Patriot as a reporter and editor are probably what inspired this, but sure would appreciate some input from all of you! How about sending me clippings, articles and any information that you would like to share with our membership? Or, send letters and we’ll start a "Forum" page.

Pat Saint Amour reports that as of 11 January, 40 people have not renewed Unit 32 membership. Take time to fill in the form in this issue and send Pat your dues NOW! Your membership is vital to the success of WAVES National. Plus, it’s your chance to share memories and camaraderie with shipmates.

I would also like more of you to become computer literate. It’s such an easy way to correspond with your friends and relatives, and there is a world of information on the Internet, including our own MI 32 Web site with links to WIMSA, Oklahoma State University in Stillwater (our Yeoman school), other WN units, and many other veterans’ organizations. Ann Marie Amthor uses WebTV, a simpler and cheaper way to go. Your own TV screen is the monitor, so it doesn’t take a lot of space.

Lastly, keep young and involved by volunteering for some of the many jobs in our unit. It is becoming more and more difficult to find workers. As our president says, "All you have to do is raise your hand."
